What NCSC Does

the Newcomer Community Service Center (NCSC) is a minority-based non-profit organization that helps refugees and immigrants from all countries achieve self-sufficiency and become participating members of American society. Founded as the Indochinese Community Center by Cambodian, Lao and Vietnamese refugees, NCSC has served the metropolitan Washington area community since its inception in 1978.

NCSC is governed by a multicultural Board of Directors representing the diverse communities that NCSC serves. These community leaders provide professional oversight and leadership for the organization’s administration and grassroots activities.

NCSC offers programs designed and administered by a multicultural staff with rich experiences in community development and cross-cultural skills. Through teamwork, NCSC staff members help refugees and immigrants from all over the world participate actively in their new society.

NCSC’s offices in Washington, DC, and Falls Church, Virginia, serve approximately 4,000 refugees and immigrants from more than 50 countries each year.

Our Clients

NCSC’s doors are open to newcomers from all countries, and NCSC clients come from a wide variety of backgrounds and nationalities.  Most of NCSC’s clients are refugees and asylees who have legally resettled in the United States after fleeing their own countries because of the threat of persecution based on their race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. NCSC also serves immigrants who have obtained legal permanent residence status but have not yet become citizens.
